Tuesday night, March 18th, St. Croix Falls School Staff, a representative Wisconsin State High School Clay Target League, and volunteers from the Cushing Rifle Club met with parents and students who were interested in being part of the St. Croix Falls School Trap Team.

There was a good turn out for the meeting. Over fifteen students registered Tuesday night and it sounded like more students were planning to join the team. Most of the meeting was a presentation from the League Representative about the league and how the season will be run.

Here is a summary of how the trap shooting season will go:

The team is open to all students in the St. Croix Falls School District who have passed the WDNR Hunter’s Safety course.

All regular season shoots take place at the Cushing Rifle Club’s trap ranges

Season will last for 9 weeks with shooting taking place on Monday and Wednesdays evenings

All members of the team will shoot two rounds of trap for score (50 clays) each week

Scores are sent in to the league online

Since all teams shoot locally, conferences will be determined by team sizes and not locations

At the end of the season there is a State Tournament at a location to be determined

There was a lot of excitement for the upcoming season during the meeting. Many of the students have never participated in this sport before and were eager to learn about it.

A School trap team will be a great opportunity to benefit all that will be involved. The St. Croix Falls Schools now has another activity to offer students that is comparatively inexpensive to participate in, that can help develop their skills in team play, focus and self improvement. The students have another fun way to represent their school in a sport they will be able to participate in for the rest of their lives. And the volunteers from the Cushing gun club will be able to help introduce new people to the shooting sports in a safe, friendly environment.

If you or your child is a student in the St. Croix Falls School District and would like to join the trap team, it is not too late to sign up. Please contact the school for more information.

Updates will be posts here on the Polk Burnett Outdoors website and there will soon be a page dedicated to the teams scores, stats, and other news on the Cushing Rifle Club’s website.

Good Luck to all the St. Croix Falls student who will take part of this new team!
